Flying Chillies, The Gardens

CNS Exam is finally over. and hence my blogging streak
it was not as tough as i expected it to be, but i shall not say more until the results are out.
And now time to gear up for EOS5. less than 6 weeks, 10 systems!!!
oh and my MOCK OSCE is on tuesday!!!! better prepare also to avoid getting scolded!

but for now i shall enjoy first. at least this weekend.

went to midvalley (where else?) after the exam with james. watched NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN, which was good by the way. the children look a little more grown up,and the prince caspian is *ahem* very dashing and charming also. the movie was pretty long 2 hours plus and the scenery was BREATHTAKING, wonder where they shot they shot the movie..the white witch and ASLAN made an appearance also. OK, shall not write more..won't spoil the movie

and then for dinner. James wanted to try something "nice and different" so we went over to the GARDENS. and decided to try FLYING CHILLIES (what an interesting and quirky name) a thai restaurant. a quick food review..

I have to say one of the thing that caught our attention is the beautiful deco. simple yet absolutely stylish and tasteful!
you can choose either to dine outside, to "people watch" and admire the garden's beautiful architecture or inside for a more intimate and cozy feeling

the staff are really friendly, smiling and bowing to you all the time. i guess thai people are really hospitable and they are trying to incorporate that. a good thing indeed :) service is excellent

the menu is pretty extensive, from appetizers, and main meals to salads and thai specialty..green curry and single dishes like fried rice and tom yum mihun and some pasta dishes as well. interesting, huh?

and at the side there are some food that have little hearts, flying colours they call it. i think that should be their house specialities

and some with one chili-spicy, and two chillies- EXPLOSIVE!

and after some contemplation on what to order...

james decided to go for the pineapple fried rice (rm16.90)

top marks for presentation!! the taste is very good, a little sour (from the lime) a hint of spiciness and although there were no real chunks of pineapple in the rice, james said that he could taste the sourness and the "the taste" of the pineapple. there were also a few prawns and the cashew nut add a certain crunch and nuttiness in it!

and me being the CHILI queen...ordered the tom yum mihun. since the tom yum is after all a thai food, i had very high expectations. when it arrived, the aroma is like beckoning out to me. when i took the first sip of the fiery red hot soup, it was explosive!

it was fragrant (they used lots of herbs, i can tell) and spicy (spicy enough for me!) with just the right amount of sourness. Pure BLISS

plus it was packed with fish slices and fish ball and a few pieces of squid and prawns. For rm16.90 its quite a good deal.

it would be nice if they would use the type of thicker flat noodles like the one it secret recipe. but mihun was great too.

something all tom yam lovers and chili lovers would try. it gave me quite a kick :) absolutely satisfying!!!

We ordered a fresh coconut to share (rm9-cut throat)
the drinks looked pretty interesting but the prices are Sky-High! seriously. you need at least 8 bucks for a drink. and they don't serve ice-water (too high class i supposed) mineral water is at 4 ringgit per bottle!

and for desserts, we were not sure what to order, so the waitress recommended the red ruby (rm8) straight away.

but sadly, this is a REAL DISAPPOINTMENT :( i expected better!

it was so watery and dilute. they had little chunks of ice floating around. and they are so stingy with the nangka also. perhaps the mango and sticky rice would have been better :(

all in all, Flying Chili is an OK place to dine. loved their tom yum and fried rice. and also the decor. Price wise, quite steep but i guess its ok once in a while. there are other thai restaurants that can give competition. But I'm glad we tried out this place.

overall rating.. 7/10 (9/10 for Tom yum mihun though!! ;P)
