My rotations finally ended. YIPPEE!
today was the last day and now a whole stretch (4 weeks only..) of holidays
HAVE HAVE to get some studying done if not i'll just faint in semester 5... in between eating, collecting angpows and stuff =)
short summary of how my rotations went...
1. KKB- we were the first batch to go to kkb.on the day we left it was raing cats and dogs....wait make that elephants and whales. and sweet james wanted to send me off and got sick as a result of that. education wise...i did learn a bit. didn't really get to polish my physical examination though. have to work hard on that, its just going to get tougher.got to know a few more friends better, played silly daring games and found out i couldn't handle them well. and altough i always know this... jane and bee ling, both of you mean so much to me...thanks for being honest and telling me things which i need to know but try to ignore.
2. community medicine- my least favourite among the lot. sigh. so very dry and didn't help that the lectures were given by... *ahem* nevermind. its over. had to do a presentation about ethical isues. ethical issues. i know its important and anything can happen in our careers in the future..
3. GP Posting- 4 days (cos of Thaipusum) in a clinic in PJ. the GP is a soft spoken nice nice lady. didn't raise her voice and is so good with her patients. did learn some stuff and saw a couple of interesting patients.
4. BS - breaking bad news. hard, difficult, awkward but it still has to be done.
don't think i did too well. and i got a "mild" SP. =(
5. Patho Lab- made me realize i can't remember 3/4 of what i learnt and i have much to catch up on....
6. CSU (Today)- Breast examination..got picked by the lecturer cos i was the one that was avoiding the most. ack, how embarrasing. history taking was ok though. got pretty good feedback from the 2 simulated patients.
looking forward to chinese new year.
happy chinese new year to everyone. may the year of the rat be a great one =)

i hate disposable chopsticks
like any other saturday nights, we went to kepong.
dinner was assam laska in the pasar malam (which is really good, by the way)
and..while i was opening the disposable wooden chopstick...a long piece of it pierced through my skin! arghh! so painful >.<
it was about 1 cm and it was so fine! then i had to eat with one hand and i dropped my chopsticks, argh. and i was whining and complaining non stop.
when we went back, everyone tried to get it out but no such luck. it was embedded too far in.
so i had to make a trip to some 24 hour clinic. where the doctor sprayed some local anasthetic and used crocodile forceps to pull it out. *ouch*
yeah, my pain treshold is kinda low..
luckily the splinter came out and didn't break. phew. if not need to have a jab and the doctor would have to cut through my skin...
oh well. i can't be THAT unlucky, can i?
so now i can't make anymore pineapple tarts =(
and its my tradition to fall sick during CNY, its npt CNY yet...but you get the idea. im having half running nose and half block nose. and mummy calls it "jogging nose" LOL.

waterlily cafe
tried a new place for dinner on Wednesday..
Waterlily cafe in Puchong
GF12 Pusat Perdagangan IOI 1 Persiaran Selatan PDR/Puchong Jaya, Puchong
Opening Hours: 11am till late (Mondays to Saturdays)
4pm till late (Sundays and Public Holidays)
Phone: 03-80704623
We went there in the evening, so sitting outside wasn't so bad, except that we had to tolerate the second hand smoke. blergh...
Waterlily cafe specializes in BBQ food and typical Malaysian food as well.
read a few reviews saying that the nasi lemak is really good!
shall try another time..
dining al fresco. the tables look like picnic tables.lol. but the atmosphere is not too bad.quite romantic, actually.=)
the fruit (watermelon) ice blended which came in the set meal. hmmm... much too sweet..can't taste any watermelon..but its quite refreshing
3 mushroom soup. very very good. i loved it!! came in the set meal also.
creamy and quite a generous amount of mushroom in the soup. plus the garlic bread is tasty too!
my absolute favourite!
1/4 chicken, bali bbq style. served with roasted potatoes, coleslaw and brown gravy.
the chicken was cooked nicely, except for the burnt bits which i had to scrape off
the potatoes were very good
the coleslaw..too watery, didn't really like it
the brown sauce? delicious =)
this is around 12 ringgit. add RM 5 for soup n drink
lamb and chicken combo..
too full, so we didn't get to try the desserts..
overall rating, maybe a 7.5 out of 10

pineapple tarts
i'm back...
after 4 days in KKB...not a very good experience =( the place was so hot.. and i did more walking than ever...actually its not that far from the girls's dorm to the town. we even walked all the way to the guy's house with torchlights. ate bread for breakfast everyday and the canteen food is barely edible.yuck.the only proper meal was dinner..also the first time i tried wild boar curry. first day i couldn't even sleep until 3 something and the next morning i was so groggy. slept better the second day but the last night was just.... well..i created some "drama"....nevermind
comming back home was so so nice. i got my bed..my bolster my comforter and my baybee...and the TV! and mummy's home-cooked food. three days in KKB got me sooo homesick >.< *i better toughen up*
then the next day...wah...no time to rest also...we had comm med. very dry. ethics and law. kinda scary also to know that so many things can be used against us. getting sued..negligence and stuff like that *shudders* and we had to prepare a presentation based on a case study..in ONE day. argh~
ok...back to the title of this post..
PINEAPPLE ROLLS!
a must-have for my Chinese new years =)
ingredients
150 g butter
100g margarine
75g icing sugar
2 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla essence
1/4 tsp salt
(sift together)
350g plain flour
50g corn flour
glaze:
egg yolk, beaten
filling:
get the ready made ones from ingredient shops. making your own is just too tedious for me!
method...
1. preheat oven at 180 Celsius. grease baking tray with butter
2. cream butter, sugar and margarine till light. beat egg yolks, one at a time. add vanilla and salt and beat until fluffy.
3. fold in sifted ingredients and mix into a firm dough.
4. put dough through a mould (can get in ingredient shop or some supermarkets) and press out into a strip about 6-7cm. place a pineapple jam roll (the filling) at the end and roll up the pastry. cut off the excess pastry..
5. put the rolls on the tray and brush with egg glaze lightly.
6. bake at 180 for 15-20 minutes until golden brown
*whoops. sorry the pictures are not very clear and abit jumbled up!*

fried arrow head
christmas and new year is over..
it will soon be time to CHINESE NEW YEAR! yippee!!
to get in "the mood" my mum has already begun making new year goodies..that will make me...F.A.T! OH-NO!!
This is probably one of my favourite cny snack. luckily we only eat it once a year cos its so fattening...
fried arrow heads!
i helped out a bit (just peeling and keeping them) and avoiding the deep fryer cos flying hot oil is SCARY! eeee
there is a certain "skill" needed to fry these golden yellow chips...to the thickness of it..and the proper temperature and stuff like that..
arrow heads, if you've never seen it before =p its also known as "nga ku" in hakka
peel the skin..
soak it in salt water (to prevent oxidation)
slice it with the food processor
deep fry it! see what i mean about eating it once a year??
the final product =)

Pan Mee (YUMMY!)
another food review...
pan mee. all kinds of pan mee. one of my favourite food. heheh
FACE TO FACE NOODLE HOUSE
68-G JALAN SS21/62
DAMANSARA UTAMA (UPTOWN)
PETALING JAYA
open daily from 11am to 10pm
there was a write up on this place in THE STAR ( metro) newspaper on wednesday.
so since thursday was a public holiday, we decided to try it out!
we reached there 10 minutes past 11 and it was packed! luckily there were a couple of seats left, cos later on people were just standing around waiting for a place to sit! i think cos it is a public holiday and the food review in the star was just a day before!
and also because of that the service was so very...slow!
we waited for almost 45 minutes. so so hungry....
oh, good news to all chili lovers. their chill is just AMAZING!
my mum, sis and i were so thrilled! haha. self proclaimed "chili-queens"
this is what we ordered...
their house specialty..the hot and spicy pan mee. comes with a sunny side up egg, anchovies and meat. you're supposed to break the egg yolk and mix with the noodles and mix the dried crispy chili also before eating. it was really GOOD!!
ooo. this is the chili =) come in 4 different varieties. the crispy chili is not shown here, its in a glass container and you can put how much you want..
hot and spicy pan mee. comes in dry and soup..thick or thin noodles
pan mee with soup. just OK. the one in taipan is nicer..
sarawak noodles. something different. very good also.
ice lemon tea. with a cute pink plastic stirrer, LOL.
so to all pan mee and chilli lovers, this is one place you can satisfy your cravings..
reasonably price..4 of us had 5 bowls of regular sized noodles and the bill was 24 ringgit..good atmosphere and many variety of pan mee... there is also curry pan mee, black pepper pan mee and braised pork pan mee to try on our next visit. they also serve french toast and fried wantan and dumplings...

its after selective exams and the poster presentation which was brought forward.
and so now i'm the only one without plans =(
and i'm sitting at home, sulking and hungry but i'm too lazy too go cook.. so i decided to blog..
hmmm..on the 3rd of january we had a G13 (my beloved class back in taylors) reunion in mid valley. 14 of us turned up, more than last year =)
we had dinner in Nandos (fave haunt) and then to the Garden's where we sat at the plushy chairs and talk...and made lots of noise, so much so that the...i dunno who they are..those smartly dressed people patrolling there..came and ask us to lower the volume. eek. so embarrasing. i mean..hello, have you heard of freedom of speech? and not like we were shrieking around anyway. HMPH.
anyway we then adjourned to prince cafe at the bolevard....then everyone left at 11 plus...
it was good to meet up with them..after so long. except that some ppl couldn't make it =(
here are the photos...
bill (the organizer!!) and me..at Nandos

Daiki Kafe
my first food review for 2008
something very close to home =)
DAIKI CAFE
143 JALAN SS 15/5A
SUBANG JAYA
just two minutes walk away from my house.
its below the subang park hotel. it used to have many stalls, including the famous need-to-wait-super-long pork noodles and chicken rice. but it has been "upgraded"
its air condition ^^ and they have marble tables and wooden chairs..like the modern day "kopitiam"
the name of this restaurant gives the impression that it only serves Japanese food.
well, they do have a fair variety of Japanese food like sushi, teriyaki sets, soba noodles etc, but they also do have typical malaysian food like toast bread, half boiled eggs, nasi lemak, kuih-kuih, curry laska, roti jala..and their drink selection is not bad also..fruit juices, smoothies, coffee, green tea...
my mum and i went to try out..for lunch..
we ordered...
hot chocolate, my all time favourite drink. its good..sweet and chocolaty. gives you that warm&fuzzy feeling! its rm 3.50
this is the ever so cute chawan mushi! quite tasty..with shitakke mushroom slices, crab meat and chicken pieces.
its rm 3.50
what i love most is the presentation. the cup is soooo adorable. with a cover some more!
this is nasi lemak with fried chicken. not bad also but the chicken is soooooo teeny. the sambal is nice =)
this is rm 6.90
shogun temaki. soft shell crab roll (rm 4.90). yummy
overall, not bad service and yummy food..can give..7 out of 10 la.
and top marks for convenience!
