my Chinese New Year 2008

My CNY this year is not any different from any other.
Well, since I don't have a "kampung" to go back too. Good in a way that we don't have to get stuck in the mad rush... just to kinjang and kepong, where most of my relatives from mummy's side are.

and of course, the must have reunion dinner on the eve of cny, where we had roast chicken instead of the traditional white chicken. and yee sang, by request of my sister..

yee sang..the best part being the crispy thingy =)

and then decorating the house with cards and stuff. since it is the year of the rat, i brought Mr. Grey ( a cute, scarily "life-looking" stuffed toy rat from IKEA, a gift from su via cos i kept kidnapping hers) down and placed him on top of the TV! its his year after all!

an interesting rat deco

first day of cny, got up early, wished everyone and then came the nice part. Vegetarian breakfast, yummy, i always like the dishes my grandma prepare for the first day. its healthy too! feast your eyes on these!

stir fried long beans, one of the few vege that i actually like eating

my ultimate favourite. nice, thick, juicy mushrooms.

tofu cooked with preserved vege

clear turnip soup
vegetarian dishes. the long ones are "prawns" on the right, "chicken drumstick" and below "duck"

mix vege, mushroom and toong fun

my grandma's famous acar. the best i've ever tasted. sour, spicy and balanced with generous topping of peanuts, yummmyyy!!

a view of jinjang from my grand uncle's house

and of course, we took advantage of the fact that most outstation people have already return to their hometown, leaving the roads oh-so-clear. even the busiest roads. driving is such a brezze.

*i remember two years ago, my parents made me drive to kepong on the first day of cny. the MANUAL car, well that was the first and last time i drove so far with a manual car.i'm not proud of it but im a strictly automatic female. sigh.*

so we went to all the shopping malls! not successful shopping trips but just to walk around..

nice deco at the curve. last year's cherry blossom was nicer though

cny deco in midvalley that left me.....???? not as nice as i expected. their xmas deco set a very high standard indeed.

over at The Gardens, it was simple and classy.

chinese instrument performance at the Gardens

and the best CNY deco goes to....ONE UTAMA. i really liked their deco. flowers, flowers and more flowers. pink white and red.. sort of like a "2 in 1" CNY and Valentines day (this thursday!)

more updates soon.

so cny isn't all about food and ang pow's (even if like both so so much) its also about spending time with family and friends.

to everyone...have a happy chinese new year!Gong Xi Fa Cai
