penang trip-day 2 and day 3

continuation from part one. click here to read

day 2 itinerary:
breakfast at an Indian restaurant that only serves western/Malaysian breakfast. so bill didn't get her Indian food :(

beach time! spent hours on the beach. playing games like dodge ball which i was the only one left cos everyone in my team was out! and the opposing team was attacking poor me. so i surrendered! cos I'm no good in catching the ball to save my team members.
and lots of photos as usual.
and lots of sun too!
sat the banana boat for the very first time. never did get to try cos didn't go in a big group. it was fun and a little scary. i was screaming and screaming and screaming. i think i made jane and mui how temporarily deft. lol.
some did para sailing and the rest were giving scores for their landing. cheh wah~ like expert like that. and the winner was ellice and yy!!

then a very late lunch at lorong selamat. char kway teow with HUGE prawns (for the price we paid, we deserve large prawns) and ais kacang with peanut ice cream. YUMMY and another cendol stop in some lorong near komtar.

evening and night: prepare for bbq dinner. and then BBQ!!
it all started when i was sitting on the rocks with jane when fi said she wanted to go to wash her hands (or smtg like that) so jane and i wanted to teman her but she said nevermind...swarna went with her

then a couple minutes later...they brought out two cakes with candles lighted up looking pretty, yummy and all. and started singing happy birthday. since it was 2+ weeks away from my birthday, i was abit stunned and puzzled... i was wondering "who are they singing to???"

and then after the "happy birthday to ching mei and dejun"...
i was like......OOOOOOHHHHHHHHH. thats so sweet right??
and Kajen, i heard it was your idea! so thank you so much. my very first birthday surprise :)
the rest...a big thank you as well, its great being able to celebrate with you guys :)

so thats day 2 in a nutshell.
now photos to the rest of the talking ;)

*and because i'm too lazy to arrange in chronological order, the photos with be of very random order, but of course i'll put the captions*

char kway teow at lorong selamat. apparently we ate at the "fake" store. cos the real popular one is this lady wearing huge goggles. but then the shop we ate, a man wearing huge goggles was cooking. anyway..the real store just ran out of food. plus this was quite good also :) what is penang without good char kway teow??
the cendol. nice but too sweet.
this is the ice kacang at lorong selamat. my favourite part? the peanut ice cream toppping!

and these is our breakfast
1. plain yogurt with fruits. yummy and healthy combination :)

2. omelet with mushroom filling and hash brown

3. char kway teow (again) which was soooo salty

4. toast bread with scrambled eggs

5. mamme mee (my food) which was good at first but the more you eat the saltier it gets.

a very random photo of me and a smiley pillow in yy's car. hehe

two very surprised people. de jun and I ..with our birthday cake.
group photo after our BBQ. thanks chef james for cooking most of the food ^_^

banana boat. wheee~

girls at breakfast!
posing at the beach
at the pool

day 3 itinerary..
it started raining cats and dogs in the early morning. the wind was so strong we could hear the weird whining/howling sound which was kinda scary....
checked out and said bye bye to the other group who were going to thailand.
made a last stop in penang at the biscuit shop.
then we headed to mainland to have a seafood lunch..
then back to IMU.
we (kajen, jane, james, swarna and i) played weird games in the car to pass time. name
1.animals
2.countries
3.medical terms
from A-Z. quite fun and very funny!!!
there was even a BM version.
reached IMU at about 6 plus and waited for my mummy. at that time i was already feeling so miserable and tired, horribly congested nose, dizziness, muscle ache, feverish..sigh...so much so i volunteered to go see the doctor for some medication.
and after a nice 10 hour sleep i felt so much better :)
it was a really great and much needed trip. thanks guys for everything :)

photo of the week

just while i'm sorting out my photos n stuff, here is a very cute photo of N.G.
Don't accuse me of abusing animals. no rabbits were hurt during this photoshoot. I think N.G likes the attention also :P

island escape-penang trip 8-10th july 2008-DAY ONE

this trip has been planned way before EOS5. our last vacation together. actually this would be my first holiday with such a big group of friends from IMU (and not the last, i hope!)

the destination: Penang, Pearl of the Orient!
the people: Kajen, Swarna, Ellice, David, Yee Yoon, DeJun, James, Bill, Jane, Mui How, Adrain, Alisha, Fiona, Aaron, Kevin, Caryn and Me.
Activities: Eat. eat and eat. beach activities (BANANA BOAT!) . BBQ. abit of sightseeing.
did i mention EAT? hahah

me being the food blogger, shall concentrate more on the food!

let the photos do the talking!

8th JULY 2008, TUESDAY

meeting point was IMU (where else?) where almost everyone was *ahem* late. when i got there only alisha and adrian was there. and then bill came. yeah, there was a horrid jam in LDP, besides no hurry...

sat in Swarna's car. and kajen insisted that none of us sleep. haha. good thing also :)

(l-r) bill, me, jane, eley, yy, dejun and swarna

first stop: bidor. this is the famous place to eat in bidor! always stop by there when going to penang with my family last time. they also have all kinds of biscuits. and Kajen charmed the shop owner (i think) into giving him free packets of biscuits!

biscuits and stuff

curry chicken noodles. the gravy was rich and very tasty. definitely has the ooomph! two thumbs up! :) must try for all curry lovers!

we ordered a few dishes and rotated it, OSPE stlye. once an IMU student, always an IMU student. lol.

the signature dish. herbal duck noodle. erm, i don't see whats so special about this..but its not bad

wan tan mee, nice but ordinary also. the noodles were springy.
on the penang bridge. and we have a "pseudo" penang bridge right in PJ too! haha. and this reminds me of the fish bone structure of some MSK tumor :p

reached about 3 plus. our home for the next three days: sri sayang service apartments. which is just opposite RASA SAYANG hotel, so jealous. but nvm..

the view from the balcony

the kitchen n dining area

living room, and bill's dolphin towel.

after everyone arrived (the other group from kedah) we headed out for an early dinner at gurney drive. even though it was a weekday evening and not the school holidays, and still quite early...it was still packed. getting a parking was a nightmare, had to walk miles just to get to gurney drive. well, at least can burn some calories before pigging out (doubt it but its a good way to comfort yourself!)

the whole group (all 17 of us) sat at a long table. and ordered practically everything to share...and the food vendors were quite ganas about their tables and chairs. have to order from their stall if you were to sit at "their place"

unfortunately, the food at gurney drive did not meet up to my expectation. i thought it would be much better. i think the standard dropped alot compared to years ago. maybe it got too commercialized. i can think of other places that served better food :( but then again, its not awful or anything and the mentality counts too-"i'm in penang, the food Heaven. the food is good" that sort of thing.

the ou-chien. oyster omelet (not sure wats it called in english)

char kway teow. this was quite nice though

assam laska.

totally disappointing :( much too sour and the noodles weren't nice and hardly came across any fish! was craving of the o&s assam laska!

fruit rojak.
cuttlefish

erm, can't remember what this is :p

pai tee/ top hats. yummy. look and tastes good too!
popiah, too soggy. not nice :( craving for the one in the kepong pasar malam.

ice kacang.

after dinner we planned for our bbq night and divided the shopping list. did our grocery shopping at gurney plaza and kajen made it into a sort of "game show/competition" which somehow i think our group (james, kajen and I) was aware of! hahah

then back to the apartments to hang out and to play all the card games. chee cheong fun and also the murder game. i sat out on most of the games cos i was on "blur" mode. just watched and laughed along. and when they played the murder game, it was like watching a movie! david, eley, yy and me

kajen, david, eley, yy, me and james.

slept at about 2 plus. lol

ok. day 2 shall be continued. tired of typing already

my 21st with my dearest

it was my 21st birthday and my dearest James celebrated my special day with me.
I have to mention that this is the VERY first time I get to celebrate my birthday with him because every year at this time he will be back in miri cos its the semester break.
and the birthday in SAM, taylors is not counted cos we weren't together yet.
so, thank you so much dear. for staying back so you can celebrate with me :)

the day started off with me dragging James to the Russ warehouse sale, where we spent one hour plus cos the queue was so long. bought some pretty wrapping paper, gift bags and some figurines (for my new room in seremban. hehe)

then we went to the curve for lunch and a movie at cinelesuire. watched Batman: TDK. which was superbly good. had to wait for my bday to watch this cos James insisted.well, it was worth the wait:)

a photo together during lunch at La Gourmet house, the curve

me with my mushroom aglio olio. packed with mushrooms and chili flakes (my two most favourite food, aside from chocolates) and lots of herbs. was really good except it was too oily

ice cream from IKEA. i shared it with james. don't get the idea that im a greddy pig. hahah

gifts: earring hanger (nice beady "handbag" with feathers even!) and a pair of blings that i picked out from Ikano and that he insisted on paying. yay, more space for my earrings :) got one pair from alicia and another from evelyn. yes, I'm an earring addict :P
our shared passion: books. its quite sometime since i read a Lurlene McDaniel book and was eyeing it in the bookshop that day. and him being so observant got it for me. hehe. he even called up my sis to check if I've read that title or not by reading out the book's synopsis. how sweet is that?? and a chick lit book, little black dress series. and yes, i have "digested" both books.. and the cutest gift, a bunny bookmark. so so so adorable ^_^

and something that i made him fall in love with (ok, not really fall in love. just made him like it more) CHOCOLATES, from the chocolate lounge in One Utama. the one I'm looking forward to is the CHILI chocolate. have yet to try any yet, no heart to eat..they all look so pretty..
James with the chocolate fondue from baskin robbins. don't know which one is more tempting :P

the fondue set. pure indulgence. 16 mini scoops of ice cream, all assorted flavours-green tea tastes kinda weird. there was also multi coloured sorbet and more familiar flavours like jamoca almond fudge, chocolate and stuff. there were also bananas, grapes, kiwi fruit, brownies and cakes. YUMMY. a must try for all dessert lovers. it will be even more special if you're celebrating something. can't afford (in terms of cash and also putting on weight and oh! the guilt!) to eat it just for fun

me with the first birthday card. a carat card with a rhinestone studded handbag. i know i love bags alot too. and shoes. earrings. dresses..lol :P there is also a second card that reads...

SELAMAT HARI JADI, untukmu yang istemewa. hahah. shall not say anything more!
opened all my gifts while having dessert. which was a very good idea :) and each present had a "story" to go along with it. perfect way to end the date

a very random photo. spot the NOT! its the moose, which is Caryn's key chain among all the bunnies. hahah

and when i went home, mummy surprised me with a full size cake from secret recipe! cos we normally have 4 slices to share to celebrate birthdays..chocolate indulgence, my favourite flavour some more! hehe.

can't put our family photos cos mummy is in the pj's LOL.

a big thank you to my dearest family.. all the prezzies and sms/facebook wishes from my friends..and to my moosemoose..muaxxie!! my 21st birthday was really special and i shall remember it for a long time to come:)
