I recently discovered this pretty bakery in KL, so we went for breakfast/ brunch on a sunday morning

wow. such a pretty place with high ceilings, sweet pastels flowers and all
be prepared for a large crowd and to wait for a seat!
surprisingly the price is quite reasonable for a place with such a nice atmosphere and considering it is at the heart of KL!
they have a wide array of breads and pastry as well as food that can be ordered off the menu, ranging from pasta to burgers and breakfast sets and sandwiches

chicken nanban bread. lemon chicken.mummy wanted something "asian" LOL. quite yummy.

french toast. soft and eggy.

crispy walnut bread. crisp on the outside soft on the inside

smoked turkey sandwhich. yumyum. ultimate comfort food

pleasant sight :D

we had two pasta. this is the creamy seafood pasta. it was not too bad. the other was the seafood aglio olio which was nice as well

hot chocolate. smooth and creamy :) *warm & fuzzy*

5 months in batu pahat!

i have been in Batu Pahat for the past 5 months completing my final semester. one more exams to go through before getting and MBBS!
have been neglecting my blog so much so that i even forgot my password! =.=

anyway, here is a short post about FOOD IN BATU PAHAT
one thing i enjoy about moving to a new place is discovering new food! yumyum. and BP did not disappoint!
here are some must try recommendations! i only have some photos though and no exact address. sorry! :(

Bakeries
BP is full of bakeries. there would be at least two on the same row of shophouses. These are the few which i often patron
1. KOFU BAKERY- near agro segar
they are famous for their coffee- very strong and aromatic. good for PF nights! and also nasi lemak special and otak otak sandwiches. they have a good variety of buns too. chicken curry puff and sardine puff is good as well

2. Family bakery- one in town, one outlet in taman bukit perdana
they are famous for their ogura cake. which comes in many different flavours like mocha, pandan and chocolate. its nice and spongy and airy and not too sweet as well

3. Far Kee- One outlet in taman bukit perdana, one in town and one near carefour

4. La Luna Bakery- Taman bukit perdana & town
yummy cakes! the chocolate confession and chocolate rendezvous is really yummy. chocolaty and moussy.

Bubble Tea
Bubble tea is very very "in" in batu pahat im not sure why either. there are many shops that have these and its quite difficult choosing a flavour sometimes :P
1. Withcery Ider- one in town, one near carefour
Buy one Free one :D this is very worth it !

2. Tea Bar- opposite carefour
The pearls are more chewy (i like!) and they have alot of variety. my personal favourite would be the passionfruit & yakult. yum. its sourish and the passionfruit seeds add a nice bite :D

3. C&K- taman bukit perdana
this would be the most convenient place cos its near my house! i like the chocolate ice cream tea. its like milkshake. sinfully yummy :D

chinese food/ seafood
1. Steamboat place- minyak beku
This place is fondly called the "swimming pool" place cos its next to a public pool. its famous for its fried pumpkin with salted egg yolk (to die for!) and fried chicken and fried mantau buns and curry. They also have steamboat. good food & affordable price.

2. ship village-segenting
this place is a good 30 mins drive from town. its a very quaint village with a lovers bridge! we came here on our last few days in BP. yummy salted egg crabs and fried squid. nice place to visit.

3. ming castle- town.
for dim sum.

4. swee kee- in town and near carefour
yummy tonic soup- duck/chicken/ pork and yam rice, they also have curry fish.

5. swee bee chicken rice-in town
steam/roast chicken, chicken chop, roasted pork, char siew and a variety of side dishes like tofu and vege.

6. Ah Hua- near agro segar
for yummy noodles

7. chop see kee wan tan mee- town
a very famous and old shop. yummy springy wan tan mee, BP style

8. boon laska- at the junction to town/ banang heights

9. Ocean Restaurant- town
yummy o chien and tofu. reasonably priced also

Hawker food
1. Haiki- in town
they have carrot cake, otak otak, chicken wing, o chien, noodles, pork satay ect

2. Near the bus stop (dunno whats it called :P)
good pisang goreng, laska and ice kacang

others
1. Nasi Briyani
seems to be their speciality. There are many outlets. There is one opposite Putra hospital, which is only so-so IMHO. Nasi Briyani Power in taman soga ( i think?) is not bad. There is also a "chinese style" nasi briyani near the bus stop in town, which is less oily and quite nice too :D

2. Just Waffles- fusion food. in taman bukit perdana
they have malaysian and western food. waffles with savory toppings are quite nice too. but be prepared to wait if there are many customers. they have a nice selection of desesserts too.

3. Tokyo Japanese restaurant, near carefour
newly opened restaurant. nice atmosphere and the food is quite good.

4. restaurant yong hoe. dunno whats that area called :P
for good tau fu fah, the shop nearby has yummy tofu bakar, carrot cake and a yummy passionfruit drink!

so as u see, the list is endless, but im glad i did get to try so many new food. BUT i've put on weight. OMGOSH :'(

tiramisu: the cake version

this is the yummy tiramisu cheesecake from Alexis~

its does look and taste like the one in the shop, even if i say so myself! hehe

its abit tedious, but so worth it :)

caramelized almond
200g sugar

140g whole roasted almonds

melt the sugar over low heat in a saucepan, stirring occasionally till it turns golden brown.

add almonds and stir to coat evenly. remove from heat and tip onto a metal plate

*tip: to wash the pot and plate, just use hot water!*

sponge cake

6 eggs, separated

120g caster sugar

110g plain flour (sifted)

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

preheat oven at 150 Celsius

line a 9' pan and grease well (or use a spring foam pan!~)

whisk egg white and sugar with electric mixer till stiff peaks form

reduce speed and add egg yolks, one at a time until well combined

fold in the flour, pour batter into tin and bake for 35-45 minutes

cream cheese filling

300g cream cheese

100g caster sugar

3 egg yolk

1 tablespoon sherry

250ml whipping cream, whipped

beat cream cheese and sugar till light and fluffy

add egg yolks one by one

add sherry

fold in whipped cream

* i made some changes, i only used 250g cream cheese cos it comes in 250g a packet. and i used 2 egg yolks and 150ml cream. the egg whites that are not needed here can be used in the sponge cake. and i used baileys instead of sherry*

coffee syrup

1 1/2 tablespoon coffee powder

1 tbsp caster sugar

300ml hot water

1 tbsp sherry

mix all

100g dark/cooking chocolate, thinly shaved

300ml whipping cream, whipped

to assemble:

1. slice the sponge cake to two

2. place one into the cake tin, drizzle half the coffee syrup.

3. top with half the cream cheese filling
4. sprinkle the chocolate shaving and top with the rest of the cream cheese filling
5. place the other slice of cake on top and drizzle the rest of the coffee syrup.

6. cover with cling wrap and chill overnight

7. cover the cake with whipped cream and coat with caramelized almonds!

* mine was half complete as i did not have enough cream. i just topped the cake with some cream and sprinkeled it with the almonds. the next cake will be a full one :)

i realize that i have been abandoning my blog for much too long. its almost the middle of the year and this is MY FIRST post !

some yummy tempting photos of TIRAMISU ! ~

recipe will be up later. this is a slightly different version. in fact, this is just a mini version. the real one is sitting in the fridge, waiting to be decorated tmr morning.

its made of cream cheese and sprinkles of dark chocolate layered with sponge cake (lady's finger in the mini version) soaked in coffee (and Baileys! ) yummmm~

obligatory last post of the year 2009.lol.

gosh, i cannot believe one year has passed so fast. i tried to recall how 2009 has been....
we were still in sem 6. i remember the kampung angkat trip to BP, which was kinda fun and a good experience, since, well, i've never been to a kampung before :P
then started sem 7. the nightmare semester with the EOS.OMG. was a rather stressful semester with lots of studying and preparations. glad i did well for that :D
also, I became an emcee for the VERY first (and last:P) time on music nite
and was in the student council as secretary as well. wow. things that i never imagine that i will actually do :P
and the highlight of 2009 for me was my selectives in perth. it was such a good experience. the place, the food :D the people and the hospital. had a great time there. and i also learned to be more independent :P
so 2009 was good to me :D

hi! I'm back home in Malaysia now. Perth was AWESOME. i enjoyed everyday of my 4 and a half weeks there :D

I'm back with more foodie posts :) starting with the simpler ones first :P

I'm gonna write short reviews on four yummy places to get desserts/ cakes/ pastries/ drinks

waffles with chocolate and cookies&cream ice cream

the main attraction here is 50% off waffles every Tuesday :D

(ice cream does not apply though)

pralines&cream and macadamia nut ice cream. yum

the waffles come with cream and syrup. additional ice cream topping is an option.
its freshly made to order, nice golden and soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. very very good :D

SONNY'S CAFE

we came here on our last day for afternoon tea. just because it looked nice, the selection of cakes n pastries :)

we had a tough time choosing two cakes. they had chocolate fudge, tiramisu, mixed berry cheesecake and so many pastries as well.

first we had the irish cream cake. which looks so good!!! BUT there was no irish cream taste at all :( nevertheless, it was quite good. i think its a cheesecake. its filled with chocolate pieces and almond slices.

our second cake was the apricot meringue, simply cos we wanted to try something different :) its nice with two different textures, the base was a crumbly cake with pieces of apricot. the topping was light and fluffy meringue. yummy!!!

and we had a cup of cappuccino each as well :D

and the coffee queen was very happy. heheh

this is a little quaint bakery along the road where the bus i take to SCGH every morning. looks so tempting indeed!

I couldn't resist and on the last day of my posting in the hospital, i got down the stop nearby and popped into the shop to have a peek.

mixed fruit tart

its quite a small shop and it was PACKED with people, probably cos it was tea time. all their goodies looked so very good!!! from cakes, pastries, bread and cookies. In fact i got the idea of chocolate dipped gingy from this shop. teehee.

the mixed fruit tart had a crunchy buttery crust and nice creamy custard filling and topped up with a selection of berries- blueberry, strawberries and raspberries. yum. a wonderful combination of taste and texture

chocolate eclair

this is also very good. light pastry with cold creamy chocolate filling and more chocolate topping on top.

chocolate cake infused with alcohol .

this chocolate cake is wicked :D sponge cake layered with chocolate cream. simple but so delish~

UTOPIA BUBBLE TEA

we actually had bubble tea in the city.cannot recall the exact location :( this shop has outlets all over i guess.

i had eternal love milk tea :D its basically milk tea. LOL. with sago. nice combo. the sago was nice and chewy. very refreshing drink!!

sue and I had a green tea with red bean paste, which was superbly yummy. we had the large one, which came out about $6
red bean goes very well with green tea. and the green tea ice is soft and so fine and melts in your mouth. mmmmmm. this flavour is highly recommended :D heard the mango one is nice as well

their packaging is so nice. a very hard cardboard box.

its 17.50$ per strudel, and they don't sell it per slice. but if you order it in advance its 15.50$

its absolutely yummy. light crispy and flaky pastry layered with awesome cream and custard and apple slices. fantastic!!! and its not too sweet too.

yummy yummy yummy. a must try if you are in perth!!! thinking of buying one back for my family now. hmmmm~

so we were in Freo for the THIRD time (Freo is my fave place so far) and we decided to try out this ice cream cos I saw it in Yiling's blog....and it was warm day, perfect for yummy ice cream

i had a cone ($5.20, the ice cream is $4.30 and the topping is $0.90)
it was so difficult to choose the flavour and the topping. its actually not a topping though. they crush it and mix it with your ice cream. i guess this is what makes it so unique :D

i had chocolate hazelnut with an arnotts mint slice. yummy. the ice cream was creamy and not too sweet, and i loved the mint taste. the cone was nice and crisp too. so worth the money spent !!!

the wonderful array of "toppings". that was why i had such a tough time choosing the combination.

hi! greetings from the land down under! yep, I'm in Perth now, for almost two weeks, doing my elective attachment (in general medicine department) and holiday-ing at the same time :D

this is s beautiful shot (from yours truly :D) of the city across swan river at almost night time

the best i've ever had!!! smooth, fluffy mascarpone cheese layered with moist coffee sponge fingers with just a hint of alcohol. mmmm. the flavours blend in so well and the presentation is FAB :D

its always crowded around here, which proves how popular this place is. there would be people standing around waiting for a seat, but things are done systematically and efficiently around here. since we were there early (a little past 6) we got a table in less than 10 minutes. woohoo~

the atmosphere is very cozy, lively with cute and homely deco, even with green and red checkered table cloths! the staff here are super friendly and efficient. even though the space is small (used to be even smaller before they expanded recently) but oh man, they utilize the space so well. the seats are sooo close to one another!!! u can just squeeze to get through one place to another! T.T

a new dessert. gianduia al chocolato. ($ 9.50)

profiteroles filled with baci custard (chocolate and hazelnut) covered with rich layers of milk chocolate. YUMMY.

something new to me :D and its certainly very unique!delightful dessert, ideal for all chocolate and pastry lovers. and its not too sweet, just the right amount of sweetness and the chocolate is very GOOD!

chili king prawn pizza. ($ 24.50)

Marinated prawns in a chili based sauce,whole peeled tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese topped with capsicum. also something different. i loved this cos i have been craving for SPICY food since i came here. and this certainly has KICK! the chesse was all nice and gooey, yummy prawns as well. LOVED the spiciness :D

spaghetti carbonara ($22.50)

i give this two thumbs UP :) very yummy and satisfying with rich creamy sauce and generous slices of bacon. one of the best carbonara I've had as well!

CALZONE ($24.50) the so called "italian curry puff" :P

Enclosed pizza with whole peeled tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese, grilled capsicum, chicken, pieces, fresh mushrooms, sundried tomatoes. its like eating a pizza turned inside out :D

nice as well. the side serving of salad was AWESOME :)

all in all, it was a great dining experience :D Fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and great company!

serving sizes are HUGE, so sharing is recommended. makes the meal more fun anyway :)

a highly recommended place!!! and a MUST visit if you happen to go to Perth. MUST MUST MUST.

pancakes with caramel banana

a nice recipe for breakfast on a lazy sunday morning. i came across this recipe in masak masak food blog.

i did not follow the recipe for the hot cakes (pancakes), i just wanted to try out the banana caramel.

its buttery, (too) sweet (can cut down on the brown sugar) and fragrant.

caramel bananas
3 bananas
60g butter
90g soft brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons water

To make caramel bananas: Halve bananas lengthwise and slice into three pieces. In a medium frying pan, add butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract and water. Heat over medium heat , stirring constantly until mixture forms a caramel and darkens. Add bananas and toss until combined. Remove from heat and serve with hotcakes immediately

Irish Cream (Bailey's) Tiramisu

a new recipe, a yummy well known dessert.
i came across this recipe few weeks back and copied it in to my exercise note book, meaning to try it out..and here is the recipe!

(its actually from Nigella's website, click here)

Ingredients:
350ml espresso coffee, made with 350ml water and 9 teaspoons instant espresso powder, cooled
250ml Baileys cream liqueur
2 x 200g packets Savoiardi (Italian lady finger) biscuits
2 eggs
75g caster sugar
500g mascarpone
2 1/2 teaspoons cocoa powder

METHOD
1.Mix the coffee with 175ml of the Baileys in a shallow bowl.

2.Dip the biscuits into this liquid; let them soak on each side enough to become damp but not soggy. Line the bottom of a 22cm square glass dish with a layer of biscuits.

3.Separate the eggs, but keep only one of the whites. Whisk the two yolks and the sugar together until thick and a paler yellow, then fold in the remaining 75ml of Baileys, and the mascarpone to make a moussy mixture.

4.Whisk the single egg white until thick and frothy; you can do this by hand with such a little amount. Fold the egg white into the yolky mascarpone, and then spread half of this mixture on top of the layer of biscuits.

5.Repeat with another layer of soaked Savoiardi, and then top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.

6.Cover the dish with clingfilm and leave in the fridge overnight. When you are ready to serve, push the cocoa powder through a small tea strainer to dust the top of the tiramisu.

the main ingredient (and the most expensive oneT.T) MASCARPONE CHEESE! rm18.50 for 250 g. thats why i only made half the portion.

its a very special and "touristy" place, very nice traditional decoration. soothing and inviting...

they even served us a welcome drink and snacks ^_^ and the people there were really nice and friendly.

haih, wasted, didn't bring the camera, all i had was my hand phone. oh well, better than nothing

they serve traditional malay food with thai influence as well

surprisingly (and lucky for us :D) the price was reasonable!

all of us ordered nasi goreng. of all different kinds. here are some pictures. too lazy to describe all, but in summary it was quite yummy :D

chicken and mushroom pasta, aglio olio style (RM 13.80) with a drink (soft drink or ice honey)
it doesn't really taste like aglio olio. no garlic taste nor chili flakes (the way i like it) its so-so only. but had generous amounts of fresh mushroom and chicken bits. plus extra grated Parmesan cheese :D

or pay RM2.00 to upgrade it cappuccino. so cute and frothy and foamy. not a regular coffee drinker so....no comment. haha, its not bad

turkey ham and mushroom crepe. (RM10.40)

the crepe was nice thin and golden brown. it was stuffed with lots of yummy mushroom and turkey ham and gooey cheese. yummy :D topped with mushroom cream sauce.

ultimate comfort food.

their specialty is...coffee (what else?) and they have these cool fancy coffee makers

chicken pie served with salad and fries (RM14.40) with a drink
nice crust with a hearty chicken, potatoes and carrot filling.

they also have a selection of desserts (which we were too full to order and there is home made apple crumble sitting at home :D) that includes crepe with ice cream, apple pie, cakes and ice cream.

just one grouse, service this time (this is our second visit) was slow :( took ages for the food to come. luckily they had some food and fashion magazines to keep us occupied.

i did not do any homweork before going, it was just a spontaneous thing, and mummy only made reservations like 3 hours before, after phoning in hundreds of times >.<

a selection of sushi. it was quite good, but not many choices. and no sashimi!!! :(

salmon tarts.cute finger food :D i think i can replicate this at home :P all i need is shortcrust pastry, salmon, tomato, cucmber, mayo and fish roe!!

and this restaurant claims to be the "first non halal" buffet. so it serves pork! (obviously)

pork intestine and other parts. eww. not my cup of tea...

dessert was mochi, baskin robbins ice cream, two types of cakes and fruits.

the black sesame mochi was quite good ~

the empty baskin robbins tub~ chocolate flavour. which they did not replenish. what happened to "unlimited" BR ice cream??
so unfair to the customers. ya, it is promotional period but they did advertise that.hmm, bad impression :(

smart move cos later there was a long queue and chocolate was the first to finish. as usual.

cooked bbq food like yakitori and squid balls.
not bad, but it was rather cold >.< had to heat it up on the bbq pit before eating

the bbq pit on each table. it was kinda like playing masak masak. hahaa

so all in all, its an ok (just OK) place to dine. food is so-so. choices not many. but for RM18.90++ its quite worth it, but i certainly wont pay rm 55 for hi tea. tenji is much better, honestly.

the bakery @ genting hotel

on a very random trip to genting, so spontaneous that we did not have any jackets, or pinkie (the camera) we had afternoon tea in some cafe/ bakery named THE BAKERY :D
its near the main entrance of genting hotel..

yummy pastries..donuts, muffins ect

hot chocolate in a very cute style. hot milk and dark chocolate to be melted in it :D so cute!

its quite bland, too much milk, but the chocolate is of good quality. could not resist taking a nibble before dunking it in the milk

hot frothy cappuccino :D (that has been drunk before i snapped a photo)

yummy cakes, cupcakes, tarts, croissants and quiches.

onion and chicken ham quiches. nice buttery crumbly crust, milky creamy fluffy filling

it was a bit cold though, should have asked them to warm it up

this is very yummy. fluffy raisin scones :D

pity they don't serve it with cream, butter and strawberry jam.

mental note to self, bring it from home next time round :D

how can i resist the beautiful cupcake :D

and we picked the most unique one.

lavender cupcake!!! it tasted like lavender! had cream cheese in it too, and it was topped with the most amazing chocolate ganache. weird combination, but it tasted allright. some thing very different!

it was certainly a delightful afternoon tea. be sure to drop by here when you are in genting :D

no surprises why. its so good. if you can't decide, just order this:)
springy taro balls on grass jelly on shaved ice so fine.
its served with creamer. so can decide how much you wanna put in it.
oh gosh, i'm craving for it now!!!

and the most unique thing ever, BEEPING UFO. you see, after you place your order at the counter and pay, they will give u this...gadget. when your order is ready..

it will light up and vibrate!!! so cute rite.
then you go to the counter and collect you order. so ingenious!! haha
and its "made in taiwan!" hahah

these ice desserts are really a big thing in taiwan.you can find it almost anywhere! i even had a few bowls during my taiwan trip..but it was quite different

its a small shop, almost always packed with people, mostly college students. it can get pretty crowded and the queue can get very long! but service is quite fast.

they have many things on their menu, several "series" like soya ice series and toppings that you can mix and match to suit your preference.

aside from that, they have hot drinks and other snacks too.

they have a reward system too. buy 5, free one drink. 10, free one dessert :D

I'm a loyal customer. 3 more to a free dessert! haha

and the best one of all. nice meaty char siew. slightly different from seremban favourites (another favourite haunt for good char siew) its more firm and provides a good bite. and not too charred either. with the right amount of sweetness. just wonderful ^_^

black forest cupcakes

2nd baking project post exams :D
(first was blueberry cheese tarts which i have already blogged about!)

one of my favourite cakes aside from chocolate is black forest, so when i came across a recipe for black forest cupcake, i marked it as a "must must try" recipe.

ingredients:
(A)
275g all purpose flour
10g baking powder
2g baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
pinch of salt
20g cocoa powder
(B)
20g chocolate paste/ emulco
2 eggs
10g vanilla
200ml milk
100g whipping cream
100g sugar (as usual, i used only half, 50g)
(C)
200g melted chocolate (use GOOD quility chocolate!)
100g melted butter
(D)
dark pitted cherries (syrup drained)
chocolate chunks

method:
1. sift (A)
2. combine (B) and fold it into (A)
3. Add (C) and combine thoroughly
4. spoon mixture into greased/ limed muffin trays
5.place chocolate chunks and pitted cherries on top
6. bake in preheated oven at 200 celcius for 20-25 minutes
7. decorate as desired

*its very hard to measure 10g and 2g!!! so i just made a rough estimate. try using a smaller scale weighing machine which i don't have..
**i think its better to place choc chunks and pitted cherries in between the bater, not on top cos it will come out very messy! and not too presentable! >.<

and as always, i recommend carefour dark cooking chocolate!

look at the yummy sinful glossy melted chocolate!! pop in into the microwave on high for about 1 minute

arghhh. and the whipping cream just would not RISE. argh, it was supposed to be poofy and light for the deco. after 10 minutes on high speed it was still FLAT. argh. but i was still determined to get a pretty shot of my masterpiece. this is the best i could do. hmm. not too bad i guess.

its a great recipe. the sourness of the cherries (despite the name on the can..pitted sweet cherries0 goes well with the rich dark chocolate chunks. the cake is soft and spongy. the whipped cream goes well with it too.

this is actually my third time here but never got to blogging about it

we ordered two noodle dish. this is the hailam noodles.
and the war tan ho. not bad la. but nothing special.....

cos their speciality lies in the SATAY!!! they have chicken, beef, mutton, fish and duck!

but i only eat chicken. and fish. not very adventurous eh.

the satay..hmm..its really good. nice lean chicken meat. no bits of fat that i often find myself picking out and discarding it. and its too burnt also. well, except for one stick that was half charred...

and the yummy yummy thick fragrant peanut sauce topped with sambal. this is the best!!!

so restoran malaysia is the place to go for the FAMOUS KAJANG SATAY!!!

the interior is very nice. but the food smell (fish, to be exact) was abit too strong-_-"

Sushi rice and a big slab of eel. yummy. the sauce rice and eel. nice combination indeed!

came with side serving with "cornflakes" and seaweed

also served with clear soup. in a teapot! so adorable :)

and i ordered the Rokkaku Set (RM60)

this was great as it had a variety of stuff. from fresh yummy thick slices of salmon to tempura prawns, chawan mushi, sushi rice, eel, some other seafood. fruits and soup. all-in-one :)

and last but not least, desserts :D
strawberry ice (rm8)

its frozen strawberries filled with vanilla ice cream inside and cream. just pop in into your mouth and it will melt slowly. and give you a brain freeze.lol

all in all, Zen is a pretty nice place to dine. Service was efficient, didn't have to wait too long.

will definitely come back here again :D

Devil's Food Cake with chocolate frosting

Post exams also means more time for baking!!! wheee~
this time is chocolate cupcakes for Father's Day :D

Ingredients:
3 1/2 tablespoon soft margarine (i used butter, cos no margarine in the fridge)
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup sour cream (i substituted it with plain yogurt)

Method:
1. Preheat oven to 180 Celsius. Line with paper cups or grease a muffin tray
2. Put margarine, sugar. eggs, flour, baking soda and cocoa powder in a bowl
3. mix well with an electric mixer until smooth
4. fold in sour cream/ yogurt
5. Spoon batter into muffin tray
6. bake at 180 Celsius for 20 minutes

Frosting
4 ounce cooking chocolate
2/3 cup sour cream/ yogurt

1. double boil/ microwave the chocolate until melted
2. add in sour cream/ yogurt

to assemble:
1. let the cupcakes cool
2. spread frosting and let it set.
3. top with almond nibs/ hundreds thousands or chocolate shavings, whatever you want :)

Enjoy!!

yay! Obstetric posting is over. exam (long case) is OVER!

i got a relatively easy case but made a HUGE blunder. sigh, just hope to pass.

weekend is here and time to rejuvenate before starting psychiatry and preparation for EOS 7!

and even though my birthday is not till a months time (25th July *hint hint*) i already have gifts! *evil laugh*

a huge tote bag from Padini, thanks to big sis ^_^ *muaxx*

definitely have space to dump all my stuff in here, plus my baby blue xoxo bag is starting to give way :(

a nice visit from miss bubu a.k.a alicia chu who brought me home made pancakes, strawberries and blueberry+maple syrup! a big achievement coming from someone who did not know how to break eggs properly last time! (big secret is out! muahahha)

it was really yummy. thanks BOO!

and along with it was a collection of pretty THORTONS dessert gallery chocolates all the way from UK :D

and since its so so so pretty, almost like a work of art, they deserve and individual shot. and i have no heart to eat any of them yet but i'm sure it will taste as good as it looks!

Its been awhile since i last blogged...too caught up with work ever since i started obstetrics posting..

here is a quick foodie update

came to know about this place through a The Star's Eating Out column (Wednesday, 27 May 2009) Happy Mansion seem to have many good eating places ^_^

This cafe is modern and simple yet has some coziness. The outside has several potted plants providing nice greenery. There are also several sofa to relax.
The menu was divided to several sections; Small bites, soups, salad, pasta, main meals, asian delights, cakes and desserts. prices ranging from RM10-20

From the "Asian menu" this is the Kam Heong Chicken Fried Rice. a little lacking in terms of presentation, but otherwise no complains :D
it is very yummy and spicy, with generous chunks of well marinated chicken.

and from the main meals, this is the MM Mushroom Chicken. Perfect for all mushroom lovers, even though i wished they has more mushroom in it. Its actually two pieces of fried breaded chicken fillet with fresh mushroom slices sandwiched in between. and the most amazing part was the creamy white sauce that was cheesy and absolutely delicious!!! it it served with fries and a serving of coleslaw.

and you will be SPOILT for choices when it comes to dessert. there is chocolate brownies with ice cream, bread butter pudding, tiramisu, carrot cake, chocolate mousse, Classic swiss apple pie with ice cream and pumpkin pie, all home made :)

as we had a tough time selecting ONE, we decided two have to instead.

the chocolate brownie was quite good but too sweet for my liking. top marks for presentation though :D

the swiss apple pie with vanilla ice cream was good also, something like my apple crumble. should attempt an apple pie next!

all in all, MM cafe is a nice place to dine, with good food and yummy desserts. service is fast and friendly, definitely worth a second visit :D

Krispy Kreme is in Malaysia

Yep! the first KRISPY KREME store is located in Berjaya Times Square, which created a BIG HYPE!!! my dad who just could not sit still at home went all the way there and came back with a huge box of a dozen doughnuts. two weeks back. apparently they were having promotion (buy 8 free 4) and were even giving away doughnuts (the original one) to the customers who were lining up~!

the verdict?

it was quite good but i didn't really fancy it cos it was TOO SWEET!! seriously sweet stuff. honestly i prefer big apples/J Co.

but their toppings are pretty good as they use Hershey's chocolate. had to gulp down a whole cup of water after eating the doughnut!

music nite was held on 29th april 2009. just one of the events us SRC had to organize to inject some fun.
glad that many people helped out and relieved that students actualy participate! hurrah~
I was in charge of invitations (again) and was coaxed to be emcee with dejun ONE day before the event. OMG!!!!

i brought musmus for amusement (and support! LOL) and musmus got violin lessons from wen leong. hahahahh. and he was supposed to put musmus in his pocket when performing on stage!! but he chickened out last minute :P

chocolate lava cupcakes for mother's day

since is Mother's day today, i asked my mummy what she wants to eat so i can bake something for her. she said..
something new...
with chocolate!
very easy :D
let me share a recipe...chocolate lava cupcakes. rich chocolate cupcakes with a creamy chocolate centre. I've cut down sugar and chocolate cos mummy doesn't like it too sweet. use good quality dark chocolate ( i would recommend carefour dark chocolate, which is quite cheap and of good quality too)

Chocolate lava cupcakes

Chocolate ganache
100ml whipping cream
100g cooking chocolate
1. Boil the whipping cream. Remove from heat
2. Break the chocolate into pieces and stir in it the whipping cream until melted. Leave to cool and refrigerate it until semi-solid
*can actually make as much ganache as desired. This is just about enough for the filling for 12+2 muffins. Just use 1:1 portion of chocolate to whipping cream*

Cupcakes
(A)
250 all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
30 g cocoa powder
½ teaspoon sodium bicarbonate
(B)
10g chocolate emulco
40g brown sugar (I halved the original value=80g)
1 egg
150g cooking/dark chocolate (original value= 250g, I thought it was too much, so I cut 100g off)
180ml fresh milk
(C)
90g melted butter
(D)
Chocolate ganache (as above)

1. Prepare muffin tray ( I used a 12-hole muffin tray and 2 ramekins)
2. sieve (A) into mixing bowl
3. Stir (B) and combine with (A) lightly using a hand whisk. Do not overbeat!
4. add (C) to the batter and mix well
5. Spoon some batter into the tray (half full) add a spoonful of choch ganache and top up with more cupcake batter. Fill it to about ¾ full
6. bake at 180°C for 20 minutes.
7. decorate as desired.

had extra batter so i used two ramekins (used for making souffle!) it looks rather nice in it :D

decided to give decorations a pass this time, cos its sweet enough and it was snapped up within minutes after i took it out the oven :P

my dad tried to make reservations for 830pm but the person said no need, just walk in. so we decided to just try our luck. and as usual the place was super packed >.<
and then when the person asked if we made reservation, my dad just told the guy off. i mean they did not even allow us to make reservation in the first place!!! so we decided to wait awhile for a seat. it was quite frustrating really. thankfully they gave us a seat in 10 minutes time.

there was another family who apparently made reservations but the people did not have a seat for them. and they were pretty angry. i think cos there are 3 numbers on the card, 3 different ppl taking reservations. so if there is no co-ordination..then everything will be messed up. this is the only major flaw this restaurant has.

Pandan cooler rm3. Refreshing, sweet and has a nice pandan tinge, the biji selasih adds a nice bite. something i can replicate at home. hehehe

anyway...this place is simple and very stylish. a bit cramped but very cozy. sorry its abit devoid of photos and the photos are of bad quality but its the best i've got (long story) but you can check out other blogs for photos that will definitely make you drool. lol

menu is quite extensive, chicken, soups, appetizers like salad and mix platter, duck, yummy curries and much more. they also have set lunches on weekdays that i think is very good value

they place banana leaf on each rice platter. the rice (brown rice + jasmine rice) rm2.50 per person (free flow) is healthy and yummy, something like the glutinous rice texture but less filling.

my elephant platter (rm22) comes with assorted finger food like fresh popiah, fired wanton, spring rolls, fish cake etc. so we can sample everything. served with yummy thai chili sauce

jungle vegetable (rm12) belacan style. this is very yummy.

best dish of the day goes to.....GREEN CURRY CHICKEN! (rm 15)

absolutely delicious!!! smooth creamy and fragrant. excellent with rice, i've never eaten so much rice for a long time. with generous amounts of boneless chicken chunks. highly recommended!!

last but not least, the tom som seafood soup (rm 20) one of the house speciality. slightly different
from tom yum soup cos its not so rich. Packed with a variety of seafood, this dish is superb. soup is spicy and sour and very authentic!

sadly they don't serve desserts. dunno if they ran out of stock or they just don't have it anymore. what a pity :(

well, it was definitely worth the wait although it would be fantastic if they could smooth out this problem as I'm sure they had to turn away many hopeful patrons. hmmm..not to good for business rite. but overall, a nice place for yummy authentic affordable Thai food!

one of the vege that i actually like eating. I'm very fussy when it come to vege. hehe

its nice and crunchy with a generous amount of mince meat topping

steamed to perfection. it was fresh and very yummy!

beancurd, sze chuan style. RM16

very flavourful, spicy stuff!! goes well with rice

the yummiest one of the lot! Salted egg prawns (rm35 for 7 pieces)

its very very yummy. each prawn is fried to perfection and coated with smooth salty egg yolk. mmm. sinfully rich~ can't get enough of it ^^

this is their house speciality, shanghainese xiu loong pau. (rm9 for 4 pieces)

small yet packs a huge punch. ultra thin skin and a meaty filling. and the soup that oozes out is just so wonderful.

and two desserts.honeydew sago (rm8) which is shaved iced with honeydew balls. smooth yummy and refreshing
this is the tang yuen in mango (rm10) 5 pieces of tang yuen (with filling) in mango puree and sago with mango pieces. yummy

this is a nice place to dine. high class Chinese food, but burns a hole in your pocket-_-"

A quick foodie post...

this cute and quaint cafe/bakery is just a 3 minutes walk from my house...and yet i haven't tried it...until today..

this cafe is run by a japanese couple...and when i was dining there several japanese customers came to buy some bread from the bakery, must be pretty good and authentic. and it was rather amusing to hear them speak japanese. kawaii~

the place is cozy and filled with cute japanese deco..koi kites, fans, the lucky cat etc. its just so different...

the bakery counter and the dessert/pastry counter. filled with goodies like eclairs (chocolate, mocha, and caramel), banana roll, cake rolls with mochi, chestnut cake & cream puffs. the bread is freshly made everyday. yummy.

coffee, served with cream (in a mini jug...so adorable) and sugar to add to your own taste. coffee was quite good...

most meals come with soup, salad and a butter roll. the clear soup is piping hot and has herbs and ground pepper floating in it. looks kinda weird but it its very good. nice, soothing and comforting....with some shredded carrots and small cubes of potatoes.

my dad went for the seafood aglio olio (RM25 for a set with soup, coffee and butter roll) which was quite tasty and had generous amount of seafood (prawns and squid). Would have preferred it to be spicier though. Hehehe:P

I had the Chicken Korokke set (RM12) which came with 3 pieces of croquettes lightly drizzled with sauce, a side salad and 2 soft bread rolls. it was also served with soup (Since it had good reviews :D)

this is a wonderful and filling (believe me!!) dish. the croquettes were fried to perfection. outside was crispy and inside was hot, creamy and absolutely satisfying! its not oily and the combination of potatoes and chicken was just right! an ultimate comfort food!

a nice golden brown butter roll. their bread rocks!! its really good. its warm, fresh and soft.

had a difficult time choosing ONE dessert (due to limited tummy space) went for the banana roll (rm5) at last cos it seems the "most worth it"

good choice :D outside is like a swiss roll and inside is custard and cream with a banana in the centre. nice combination and a sweet ending :D

this is a nice place to dine but prices are quite steep! definitely worth a second visit :D

plus the service was good, the people are super nice and polite!!

let me present to you all the delectable goodies!!

first is the "moffels" (MOF waffle) (RM 3) which comes in a variety of flavours. this is triple kick! white chocolate, green tea and chocolate cream. yummy combination. crispy and hot! the only thing thing to complain is its teeny size! its so small!!! just a few bites and....*poof*

this is the strawberry sundae (RM15) which is very very delicious! it also comes in mango, matcha, sesame, peach and other flavours. Its actually made of jelly, strawberry gelato (which has REAL strawberry taste) and soft serve ice cream which was soft and super creamy. really good!!

this is one of the chef's speciality. Macha Zen (RM13.50)

Red bean paste, japanese dumpling (like tang yuen) and a scoop of macha ice cream. all the ingredients go together very well. The slight bitterness of the ice cream is balanced out by the sweet red bean paste.

Last item is the chocolate chip almond coffee(RM10) topped with whipped cream, generous almond sprinkles and chocolate chips. its too bitter for me. don't really fancy coffee anyway.

overall, this is a great place to enjoy desserts. and the special thing is that its different from other ice cream parlour, offering so may unique and interesting desserts.

A quick food review...
We were supposed to go to My elephant for some yummy fiery THAI FOOD...
but it was so packed and we probably had to wait 30 minutes before getting a seat...so we decided to adjourn to another place just at the opposite block

the place was quite packed, mostly with families and young people. parking was quite difficult, didn't know this was such a happening place. LOL. there are three good places to eat here, 6 to 1o grill, Food foundry and my elephant (yet to try!) the people staying in the flats above are so lucky.

simple, no frills place

so this is what my sister ordered...feeling a little adventurous she ordered N/Z sirloin steak (RM 19.90) medium rare. It was served with fries, baked beans and some egg thingy. i took a small piece..hmmm..i don't think i can appreciate steaks. taste weird and had a lingering blood taste. so not my cup to tea...

i was feeling quite sick of chicken, so i went for grilled fish with lemon butter sauce (RN 12.50) was quite good. the sauce was nice and fish was yummy as well.

my father had nasi lemak with curry chicken (RM7) not bad, sambal was good and curry chicken tasted like my mum's cooking.

and for dessert! banana fritters with ice cream (choice of chocolate, vanilla or strawberry) RM5.50

ooo. this is LOVELY. a total contrast of texture and temperature. crisp batter coating the soft banana. Hot fritters with the sweet cold ice cream. Absolutely wonderful ^_^

Service was quite fast despite the large crowd and food was OK and prices were reasonable. worth another visit :D

we went to celebrate Ze Wee's birthday last wednesday...eventhough his birthday was TWO WEEKS ago -_-"Wai Teng, Ambiga and I. before we left. was discussing our TBL before that...

the place we went to was Hawaii Steak House...which I suggested but I've never been there myself...anyway..this place is nothing to shout about...quite ordinary, something like salmon steak in subang, for those of you who are familiar...so too lazy to write a food review. haih, quite dissapointing as their menu looked so promising!!! and the service is not too good. we asked them to keep the cake and bring it out later. so after dinner, they just plonked the whole the cake still in the box in the plastic bag on the table. so horrible. >.<

weekend baking project- japanese light cheesecake

here is a recipe for japanase light cheesecake, my first attempt:) with a series of unfortunate mistakes as well.

ingredients:

for the base

1 slice sponge cake (about 1cm thick)

*i used the ready mix sponge mix that can be bought from the ingredient shops and baked half the portion (250g of pre mix) according to the instructions. usually you'll need to add eggs, water and butter*

(A)

400ml fresh milk

250g cream cheese

60 gram plain flour, sifted

(B)

5 egg yolks

20ml lemon juice

(C)

5 egg whites

100g caster sugar

STEP1:

preheat oven to 180 Celcius. line a 8 inch pan, or use a spring form pan (which i think its much easier) and place the prepared sponge cake.

STEP2

double boil (i.e heat water in a kuali and place a metal bowl inside the kuali containg the ingredients) the fresh milk and cream cheese until dissolved (cream cheese should be room temperature and cut into smaller pieces so that it melts easily) add plain flour, stir and cook until mixture has thickenes. remove from heat and let it cool. Add (B) and mix well

(ok, i made 2 mistakes here...first i measured the flour wrongly, i used 90g instead of 60g! argh! and i did not sift it! so once it put the flour in the mixture it became all lumpy and chunky. uh-oh...)

STEP3

whisk (C) at high speed until soft peaks form. slowly mix in into the mixture from step 2

(mistake no.3.....my egg whites were contamianted. haih, dunno why but my egg seperation skills suxed that time. the egg whites must have NO traced of yolk so that the soft peaks can form -_-")

STEP4

strain the cheese mixture (using a sieve) on top of the sponge cake

STEP5

Steam bake (i.e take a larger pan, fill it with water and immerse the baking pan into the water. if using a springform pan, wrap it with aluminiun foil so the water won't seep in) the cake in the preheated oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes then reduce the temperature to 140 degrees and bake for another 1 hour and 45 minutes

STEP6

leave cake to cool in oven with door ajar for 1 hour (to avoid cracks in cake) chill in the frige at least for 4 hours before serving

(my cake HAD A CRACK! ARGHHHH~!)

baking the sponge cake. if its too thick then have to slice it, something which i'm not good at. i made a mess on the table at the process and my base was very uneven >.<

this is a fool-proof recipe!! hahah. it actually tastes good. light and fluffy and spongy. chesse taste is not over-powering with a hint of lemon taste(the only type of cheesecake mummy will eat.lol) very yummy even if i say so myself :)

Mee sua tow. RM11.00 for one serving

The mee sua was like eating sharksfin soup :) its smooth starchy and the mee sua is nice and silky. its packed with lots of seafood, fish, crab stick etc.

this is the seafood roll (rm10 for small portion, RM15 for large)

its something like lobak. its crispy and yummy. the special chili dip is good too

octopus (rm10 for small, rm15 for big portion)

this dish is quite interesting, the octopus is boiled..its is springy and very nice to bite :) served with chili dip and peanuts.

and for dessert, yam paste. the serving is super tiny. one scoop for one person -_-

its soft, smooth and slightly sweetened.

all in all its quite a nice place to dine although prices are a little steep, but after all its seafood :D

chicken cordon bleu rm15.90

this place is simple and cozy and even though the location is quite weird (below some flats) is a nice place...

It has quite a variety of food ranging from appetizers, Asian food, wide range of pasta, other main meals (beef, fish, chicken and lamb) and a selection of desserts.we ordered 3 dishes and a slice of cake..

the chicken cordon blue was basically chicken stuffed with turkey ham and cheese. yummy and full of flavour with a nice hint of herbs. it is served with some vege and mashed potato.the mushroom sauce on it is creamy and with lots of mushroom. me likey :D

carbonara, RM15.90

Pasta ranges from classic bolagnaise, carbonara, prawn/vegetable aglio olio, arrabiata and lots more...the carbonara is creamy and rich. there is lots of turkey ham, chicken slices, mushroom. it has lots of cheese.but i think i can't finish it by myself cos it gets quite "jelak" if you eat too much. but it was good :)

the prawn aglio olio was so-so. abit too oily for my liking. aside from that, it had a nice hint of spiciness and was quite tasty. with lots of prawns too

the dessert counter has brownies, muffins and bread butter pudding. but the must try star of the day is the mille crepe. its really FANTASTIC!
mille crepe means "thousand layers"
its actually 20 pieces of thin crepe filled with fresh creme. 3 flavours are available-chocolate, vanilla and strawberry&cream.
biting into in is like heaven!!! you can feel each individual slice of crepe and the creme just oozes out and the texture is light and fluffy. melts in your mouth.

overall, Food foundry is a nice place to dine. food is good and prices are quite reasonable. DO try the mille crepe!!!

on our second visit (just two weeks after!) we had these..

from the appetizer menu. soft shell crab with spicy sesame dressing.it was crispy and not bad. just one complain that it was a little too fishy. and i could not taste any spicy sesame dressing.

this is the nasi lemak with curry chicken. quite good. crisp anchovy and yummy sambal :)

grilled chicken with rosemary and thyme, served with vege and mash.

This dish was really good. the gravy was nice and herby, chicken cooked to perfection and mash was a typical comfort food

and for the main agenda. Mille crepe (how could we resist NOT ordering this??) this time we ordered two slices. muahahah. chocolate and also strawberry. both were super good :D

its just a very small shop and there are a few tables and chairs outside for dining in. most people prefer to take away. can be pretty crowded at times, so be prepared to be patient!

seafood tempura (rm5.50)

and your patience shall be rewarded :)
although the menu is quite limited, 4 choices of food and only 2 drinks (soya bean and mineral water)
the seafood tempura doesn't taste like tempura. but its quite good, nice to chew :P tastes like fish, crab and sotong (to me at least..) don't know what they actually put inside. its abit like eating the chewy keropok lekor, but less fishy. BUT its very oily! and deep fried.

this is the Happy! ricebox set (rm10) consists of nice taiwanese rice, their signature fried chicken (smaller portion) and three pieces of tofu. its really yummy, and the chicken is very good. crispy on the outside and smooth on the inside ^_^ with a hint of spiciness. yummy!! also comes with a free drink (the soyabean)

and this is the handmade oyster mee sua. very famous! and i can see why! its scooped from a big pot and then topped with shredded chicken and some leafy thingy (is it parsley??) and three pieces of juicy oyster. hmm...doesn't look very good but it actually is. the noodles are smooth and silky and the gravy is really delicious. definitely a must try. serving is small, not filling if you're looking for a proper meal.

all in all, this is a great place to grab a bite or when you want a "snack-on-the-go"

will definitely come back to try the crepe!

DID NOT TRY the oyster mee sua and came back to malaysia to eat. LOL. how ironic!

SUSHI GROOVE is located at the new wing of sunway pyramid, opposite JCO donuts. since no one has tried this place before, we decided to give it a go. which also means a food post for the food bloggers, sarah kate and i :P

the interior of this place is different from most japanese food oulets, its sort of like being in a bar. very dark and mysterious with long tables. the concept is kinda nice. very different.lucklily at that time was still kinda early so we sat at the long table without having to share with others.lol. there is also no conveyer belt, so everything must be ordered...

and the "groovy" menu which was very nice and colourful and quite informative. they have a variety of stuff to choose from...noodles, rice, and fancy sushi rolls and appetizers and also desserts. more like a fusion style menu.cos some stuff weren't very "japanese"

ocha, which came in the lunch set i ordered. Choose a rice/noodle dish from the menu and pay for the dish, they will give complimentary miso soup and refillable green tea. quite worth it

this is erm...a rice dish with grilled chicken and sprinkles. something different but somehow, it didn't really taste like japanese food to me. it was a HUGE serving, i could not even finish the rice. it was just so-so. the rice was slightly soggy-_-

evie's food. another rice dish with chicken and ginger. was also considering this dish but the ginger totally changed my mind (i really cannot stand ginger!) but when i tried it, it was actually quite good, chicken was nice and crispy and there was just a slight ginger taste.

and no girls outing would be complete without lots of photos! :D

I have been wanting to go to bentong, pahang for ice-cream. not just any ice cream but special famous HOME-MADE ice cream.
and also to visit my relatives who were staying there. killing two birds with one stone.
apparently this shop is very famous. numerous write-ups have been done and food blogs are raving about it.

The shop is open from 10am to 7pm every day, except Mondays

its about 1 and a half hours drive from subang, but its so worth it :) here is the shop, fairly easy to find. its near hong leong bank and its opposite the bus station.

and as you can see..its packed with people. both the young and old. who says ice cream is only for kids :P its a simple no frills shop. they have a wide variety of desserts, but since we were all so stuffed from lunch, we just went for the basic one scoop ice cream with red bean topping. they also have ice kacang and stuff. there is also a stall that sells food like nasi lemak and other savoury stuff.

ice cream and topping flavours are very traditional. there is peanut, pandan, sweet corn, vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry and from what i read, even durian but i guess its seasonal. topping ranges from sweetcorn, red bean and cocktail fruits.

this is the pandan ice cream. the most unique one I've ever tasted. pure pandan is used, not the artificial flavouring. very nice and fragrant and not overly sweet.

how can i resist the chocolate ice cream ^-^

and its really good. rich chocolate taste without being too sweet. love it!!!

the texture of the ice cream is thick and rich, creamy without giving you the "jelak" feeling if you eat too much. and its fresh and totally home made without preservatives. thats why its so popular!!

definitely worth the drive (toll and petrol too) up :)

last part of my greediness in cameron highlands. heheh
this is also in a tea plantation in sungai palas. according to my dad we came here before years ago but i only have a very hazy memory....
anyway, this place has been given a total make-over and it is very impressive now!
but to get there..its a long drive on a very winding, narrow road. practically have to squeeze through, especially if there is an oncoming car. eek.

the main attraction (to me, at least) is the refreshment centre! its a huge cafe with tall windows with beautiful scenery. very very nice ambiance :)

and since we just could not resist it, we grabbed a table and ordered a couple of stuff, just to try :D

this is the strawberry cake. nothing too impressive. the pink colouring looks kinda scary actually. its sponge cake layered with strawberry cream. hmm..

golden brown scones. light fluffy and yummy. served with strawberry jam and butter. yummy. quite similar to the one in bharat tea house.

quite a selection of food they have. from pies to mushroom soup...

sandwiches and other buns..

we ordered a few drinks..hot chocolate, which was slightly better than the one a bharat tea house, the cameron tea and some fancy flower tea which i can't recall the name...

it was this cake actually that caught my eye and made me go.."i MUST have this"

moist chocolate cake topped with yummy chocolate icing. nice moist texture, not too sweet but could have been more chocolaty. but it was quite good.

not forgetting the carrot cake with cream cheese topping, this was rather good. with a nice but not too strong cinnamon taste. not too sweet, and the topping was good also, not too rich and thick.

so...this is the end of my eating escapade in cameron highlands!

next stop! since my cousin n her parents were still on the way up to the apartment (equatorial) we decided to make a second stop...to eat AGAIN!!!
sorry, no address, but cameron is a pretty small place. just look for the bharat tea house sign :)

introducing brownies with strawberry ice cream, RM 6.00. brownies with cream cheese filling. not bad but i think its a bit too pricey. plus, i think i can make better. lol.

next, the chicken pie, RM4.00. now this is worth it. buttery flaky pastry with a yummy creamy filling of chicken, mushroom and abit of mix vege.

the highlight of the day. scones! rm 12.00 for a set of two scones. quite pricey i must say :(

but it was very good. different from the ones we usually bake. its fluffier and softer. served with butter, cream and home-made strawberry jam. YUMMY. its a real treat :)

I'm back from my 2 day 1 night trip to cameron highlands. it was more like a makan trip, we ate all the way up and all the way down. so get ready for an avalanche of foodie posts :)

this place is actually a flower shop/gift shop/cafe all in one. so you get to dine in a very nice cooling environment surrounded by pretty flowers and all. it was a great dining experience... very creative items on the menu too.
cameron highlands=strawberries. so lots of their food incorporates this cute little berry.

first thing on the menu...strawberry white coffee, rm 3.50. its white coffee with strawberry taste (duh!) quite interesting mix of flavours...

next item. strawberry strudel, rm 6.90. it was actually the presentation that caught my eye.
tastes as good as it looks :)
flaky pastry layered generously with strawberry slices, whipped cream and custard. sinfully good! ^_^

hot chocolate, rm4.00 for that warm n fuzzy feeling. sadly, not very good. it was too dilute.

this is their specialty. chocoberry. yummy big strawberries coated in white and dark chocolates. good to look at at, even nicer to eat :)

rm10 per packet of 6 strawberries. a nice gift but it will melt once brought down :(

and last but not least..the "strawberry steamboat" a.k.a chocolate fondue. served with strawberries, cherry tomatoes, biscuit, pastry and marshmallow. all to be dipped in yummy warm melted chocolate. it comes in 2 sizes, this is the small one. rm16.90.

here is a cookie recipe for cny :) one of my favourites :)

traditional peanut cookie

ingredients:

(A)
80g icing sugar

140 roasted shelled peanuts (tip: for lazy ppl like me, just buy the ready made ground roasted peanut. makes it much easier and saves lots of time. hehe)

1/4 tsp salt

140g flour

1/2 tbsp milk powder

30g corn flour
1/4 tsp baking powder

(B)
1/4 tsp vanilla essence

Method:

1. mix (A) until well blended and add (B)

2. add in (C) and mix to add a smooth paste

3. roll into balls and place it in a greased pan

4. brush with egg wash

5. bake in a pre heated oven at 180 celcius for 15-20 minutes.

there was lots of people there, we had to be placed on the waiting list and had to wait about 30 minutes before getting a seat! and we got seats upstairs :) which was this cute japanese style seats, but don't have to sit cross legged cos there is a special place to place your legs. very very cute and quite comfy also :)

cute japaneses style seats, each with a hot plate for the bowl of soup and a controler for the hot plate. much easier and no smoky smell! plus you can enjoy more that 2 types of soup!

menu consists of different steamboat sets, starting from 8.80 but this is only from 3pm to 6pm. other sets are for 3-5 people, from rm20 plus.

they also have grill/bbq/teppanyaki food. and also snacks/finger food. cheese fondue (more later) chocolate fondue and a wide variety of very interesting drinks.

this is one of the drinks from the "zodiac" series. TAURUS: pineapple, peach and black tea. something like that. it was nice and citrusy and is sweetened with honey.

this is the cheese fondue (rm18.80) served with chips,fried chicken bites, fried mini buns and broccoli. cheese was quite yummy and creamy. not bad.

OK back to the food. they claim to have over 200 types of food from japanese cuisine to western and also chinese! but of course the main attraction (and the most worthy one) is the japanese food!

one of my weakness. spaghetti aglio olio, which was rather disappointing. it was watery and just spicy. no signature garlic fragrance :(

and another weakness...mushroom soup (no photo) which was also disappointing, very bland and watery and tasteless. guess western food is not their speciality.

oooh. an all time favourite. fruits on sticks....

also available: dim sum. not bad but of course cannot compare to other places.

one major disappointment. NO HAAGEN DAZZ ice cream. which i was soooo looking forward to :(

apparently the machine was "out of order" so sad :(

besides that...service is good, the overall dining experience was nice and enjoyable :)

do take advantage of this promotion period (again..it ends on 15th january 2009) its very worth it!!!

a new idea..before baking, use a heart shaped cookie cutter and lightly imprint it on the gingerbread. make sure its not too near the edges, or else it will make it even more fragile.

and after that you can fill the heart with pink icing!! ^_^ its more like valentines day. hehe

whee~ exams are over. 3 (miserable) days of rest and then to internal medicine posting (the toughest and most hectic posting! T.T)

now, for a food review (after such a long time)

and since i spend 5/7 days in seremban now, this restaurant is in seremban!

anyway, i have been craving to try out the dim sum here for a very long time. and since i had to stay back Friday night last week (long story) we decided to have breakfast there before heading home. yipee. good food makes me h.a.p.p.y :)

the place is like a proper restaurant, nice enough to have a banquet dinner. hehe

they have a wide variety of dimsum...including the hk chee cheong fun, poridge, steam buns, fried stuff. their dim sum is all very fresh and hot. and at reasonable price too. well, there was a scallop dim sum which was rm 5.(price ranges from 2.50 to rm6)but it was oh so good. definitely worth it :D average per head would be about 10 ringgit. but then again depends on how much you eat...and also what you eat :P
everything was yummy...well, the char siew pau was abit on the salty side..but it was OK. the "lai yau" pau was delicious....

they have lots of staff so service is prompt and good. its always packed, even on weekday mornings! but they have lots of tables.

something that everyone should try is the "char siew sou" another version of the famous siew pau. this comes in a different shape and the pastry is slightly different. its to die for! the pastry is nice flaky and buttery and it melts in your mouth, I'm serious! and the filling is oh so tasty. very very yummy.
the bamboo rice. quite good. lots of filling and also a salted egg yolk in it :D

ahhh. this is the one I've been raving about. the char siew sou

most of their servings come in threes

HK chee cheong fun. come with either prawn or char siew filling.

the huge nice fully air conditioned place :)

the huge variety of dim sum. all hot and freshly prepared! the scallop dim sum is on the bottom right and the "wu kok" is right on top.

so if you happen to be in seremban and craving for dim sum, this is definitely the place to go!!!

This is the new addition to my soft toy collection. a little white mouse from ikea. i saw it in sarah kate's blog and was instantly attracted to it *i have an affinity to soft cuddle cute things* and when i met up with her and some other friends for lunch and saw the real thing *heart melts* and i knew i HAD to get it. so the next weekend when i was back in subang, we went out to IKEA to get it. its name on the tag wag gosig mus. so i named it MUS-MUS.

family photo :) the staff at tony roma's are very efficient and friendly. definitely a plus point. and service is good and fast.

The Tony roma's platter. with buffalo wings, potato skin and onion loaf. potato skin was quite stingy with the topping and the potato was so thin. buffalo wings were not bad, but personally i think that TGIf's is better. onion loaf is very yummy. although its oily. nice and crispy.

complimentary bread and garlic butter. garlic butter was excellent

some fanciful strawberry lemon alcohol drink. sweet sour and sharp. refreshing!

main meal no1. bow tie pasta from the new menu. tomato based sauce with lots of mushroom and chicken with was superb.

main meal no.2 rosemary chicken with rice. it was good. chicken cooked to perfection. tender and very flavourful. rice was yummy. its like chicken rice though. LOL.

bill came up to 100plus.

surgery posting: the first three weeks

it has been awhile since i updated my bloggie...
third week of surgery posting has just ended with a flurry of case reports, case summaries to hand up.
surgery posting is so different from fam med. lots more independent learning and going to wards and doing on-calls. definitely much more hectic.
got the opportunity to go to OT and also watch endoscopies.
and i MUST fall sick in every posting. this time was worst than the last :(
had fever, sore throat, running/blocked nose and cough. was so tired last thursday, i skipped OT session and went back to rest for and hour plus before the afternoon class. and mummy being mummy came down all the way to seremban to cook porridge for me and to take care of me. so sweet~
luckily the fever lasted only one day and now i'm just having cough, and lots of phlegm.
and sue wen got infected also . so sorry gurl! >.< hope you get well soon!
I'll try not to let my blog die...so expect some post later...my sister's birthday and a food review on Tony Roma's and also a new eating place in seremban...and a new friend. mus-mus. more later!

another recipe!

this time is CINNAMON ROLLS!!! perfect for a tea-time treat. i always get very happy when mummy decides to make this (usually on a sunday :))

(i foresee that i won't be able to post up much stuff for the next 7 weeks due to the hectic surgery time table, so i will compensate now)

believe it or not the recipe is actually written in this tattered book, its actually a manual for a bread maker machine that we don't use anymore. anyway...mummy repaired it after that. :)
so, lets start...

ingredients:
300g high protein flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp yeast
60ml milk
60g butter
50g sugar
2 eggs

filling:
60g butter
50g brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon powder
measure out all the ingredients

mix the flour, salt, sugar, yeast

put the dry ingredients, butter (cubed) and eggs into a food processor (that kneads the dough) cos it will be difficult to knead it manually (lazy ppl :P)

add the milk bit by bit, don't have to use all. the dough might be a little sticky

let it run till all the ingredients are well mixed

this is the dough! use some flour if its too sticky. dough should be smooth.

knead the dough for awhile.. and let it "rest" for 15 minutes

using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to form a rectangle

prepare the topping: brown sugar and cinnamon powder. for chocolate flavour, sift in some cocoa powder as well. sift all the topping on the dough.

place small chunks of butter on the doughsprinkle chocolate chips

other varieties: leave it plain, put raisins and almonds...or whatever you think would be appropriate

starting at one side, roll the dough (like rolling sushi)

and seal the ends (can use a little plain water)

cut it into equal portions

place on a baking tray. allow it to "proof" (rise) for 45 minutes. cover it with a cloth so that it won't get dry.

bake at 180 Celsius for 20-22 minutes.

best eaten HOT, fresh from the oven!

A recipe for yummy breakfast. warning: sinfully rich but absolutely satisfying! :)
this recipe is actually from a Kemahiran Hidup (home science) text book. hehe

ingredients:
125g all purpose flour
30g fine sugar
30g butter
125ml milk
1/2 tsp cream of Tatar
1/2 tsp sodium bicarbonate
1 egg

step 1: sift flour, sodium bicarb and cream of Tatar together. add in butter (cubed) and mix it with your fingers till it form "bread crumbs", mix in the sugar

step2: make a well and crack the egg. and add the milk

step3: stir till its well mixed. batter will still be lumpy. strain it through a sift so it will be smoother.

step4:heat a frying pan (preferably non stick) add some butter and spoon some batter. wait till you see teeny bubbles forming and breaking, then flip the pancake over. be careful not to let it burn! use medium-low heat.repeat till all batter is used up.

step5: time to assemble!!! things you need :pancakes, roasted almonds, strawberries. chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, vanilla ice cream. told you it was sinfully rich!

place 2 sliced strawberries on a pancake.add choc chips and almonds. repeat and stack it up. add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. add two whole strawberries and one corner (to get the fan shaped strawberries, slice the berries 3/4 and spread it out. be careful!) sprinkle more almonds and choc chips and then drizzle chocolate syrup!

it has been THREE whole weeks since i updated my blog. sorry to all my readers who clicked on my blog to keep finding the same old thing...
My family medicine posting just ended this week..and i definitely learnt ALOT of things, not just factual stuff but also the importance of becoming a good and COMPETENT doctor in the future..
so this weekend is for me to recuperate and get all the sleep i want cos my next posting will be SURGERY!!! much tougher, of course...

expect an avalanche of posts :)
ok, here is some photos of my (master) bedroom in seremban that i share with my sister. even though its the master bedroom, its still kind of on the small side :( the toilet takes up lots of space already. and once i open the foldable table (my study table) there is hardly any space to walk. well, besides that its ok...

yeah! and a TV in my room. can be distracting at times too...

a narrow passageway. somehow, it reminds me a little of a hotel room.

and something personalized, i actually got the idea from ellice!! took a couple of nice photos and "blu-tacked" it on the side of the wardrobe :) makes me smile when i see it and sometimes make me wish i could go back in time...

Curry chicken and carrot cupcakes

We had a family gathering/party/BBQ yesterday night. simply because we haven't done that for a long while. well, the original plan was that to bring our bf to introduce to the rest...BUT only my younger cousin brought her bf. mine was in malacca and my sis's was in..some ulu place. LOL. so it was more of a family gathering at my aunt's place in kepong.

With lots of dogs...We brought ah-woo woo..but its chi chi in the picture above, so cute lehh..and naturally, ah-woo was smitten by her...but she did not really like ah-woo (poor thing) and according to my mum the reason was that ah-woo was too fat. LOL
and food!!! these are carrot cupcakes made by yours truly :) finally got the chance to use the two tier dish thingy. got many compliments from my relatives. hehe. so happy :) not much photos besides that cos was too busy bbq-ing and eating.

and now, a short tutorial on how to cook curry chicken! i was actually helping (or rather disturbing) my mum in the kitchen, she was cooking this for the BBq

What you need:curry paste (for lazy ppl like us...its convenient!) curry leaves. lemongrass and chopped shallots.
chicken (duh...)

russet potatoes, cubed and deep fried
first, heat oil in kuali, fry the shallots until fragrant. then add curry leaves and lemon grass.
add the curry paste
and the chicken
add water (follow measurements on the packet) and let it cooked, covered, until the chicken is done
add in the coconut milk last. add fried potatoes before serving.and there you have yummy curry chicken!

here is my 3rd post about food in seremban
this time is a western/fusion restaurant my sis introduced to me. we actually decided to eat there to "celebrate" the fact that she got back seremban hospital for the next three years. whoopee, i can disturb her for the next two years ;p

anyway, this is the place..

first up, the place is super nice. quite high class, i must say. much fancier than most places I've dined in. lavishly decorated but it still feels kinda cozy..

we sat at the table facing the window....there are tables outside too, if you wish to dine al-fresco.

service is pretty good, the people are there are generally nice. but the food takes quite long, especially if there is a huge crowd. so must be patient..

and they serve you plain water which is refillable. i like. hehe.

the menu is very extensive, a whole page of chicken dishes, some seafood dishes, lamb, duck, pasta. etc. seriously there is alot to choose from and prices are quite reasonable.

for starters, we had mushroom soup that was served with garlic bread (rm 5.30) i have always loved mushroom soup..and this was so yummy. very nice! and authentic too. the garlic bread was superb too. crunchy and fragrant. mmmmmm. definitely a must try!!!

here is my main dish, grilled chicken with mushroom sauce (rm10) sadly, it was rather disappointing, the mushroom sauce was SWEET! so it tasted weird :( was expecting it to be better. but the sauce aside, the chicken was pretty good. grilled to perfection all juicy and nice. perhaps i shall avoid the mushroom sauce based dish..

and my sister's main meal. creamy seafood pasta (rm16.90) its served with lots of seafood-mussels, lala, squid and stuff. the sauce is superb. creamy with a hint of spiciness. i would recommend this dish!!

all in all, it was a delightful meal. the atmosphere was nice and classy, felt almost like fine dining. lol.. prices are OK and service is not bad. a good place to celebrate special occasions (in seremban, that is :p) will definitely come back again!!

I think i'm addicted to blogging, eventhough i'm rushing for time, i will still make time to post a couple of stuff up...

mandatory report from seremban.the real teaching sessions has begun! had to do clerking of real patients...it wasn't too bad but i still have room for alot of improvement! there are so many new things to learn everyday. especially learning how to learn cos its not like phase one anymore where they give you notes and all and the questions will be based on that. its more of seeing a wide variety of patients and learning from that...

oh, remember i posted up about my aunt & uncle & lil cousin??
my lil cousin, Ian is so so so ADORABLE. im not the type who like kids very much, most of the time i think they are annoying but he is an exception! he is so lovable, and sweet and inquisitive and cute. his smile just makes you want to melt and his laughter is so infectious!!!

last sunday was mooncake festival, but we celebrated it one day in advance.

2nd week and a nice surprise

2nd week of uni has passed. and its getting better bit by bit although i 'm still trying to cope.

monday was bbq orientation night, where some groups had to do performance. yet again M106 (now known as c2/08) came up with lots of talent with performances:
1. Esther (vocals) and Jeremy (guitar)
2. group performance (two songs)
3. accapella performance by Zher lin (teresa teng-*direct translation* the moon represents my heart) quite appropriate since mooncake festival and hari raya is coming up as he said.
4. a very impressive duet by khee chun (cello) and vanessa (piano)
it was a fun night, i enjoyed the performances, made us temporarily forget all our worries...
took some photos with the handphone camera but can't seem to upload the photos via bluetooth :( bear with my "photo-less" entries for now.

lucky me, I'm in family medicine posting, the easiest and most relaxing one, we don't have to go on calls unlike some other batch mates.

have been staying in imu clinical school most of the time and we have yet to meet real patients. monday will be the real thing then. going to klinik kesihatan seremban to clerk patients and do PE. supposed to read up alot this weekend but i forsee that will not happen cos my aunt, uncle and a little cousin (whom i've never met!!) is coming back from the states tonight at 12am! whee~ i'm so excited!! BUT have to read up on clinical skills and some other stuff, don't want to look like a blur case on monday :(

the nice surprise part....

it all started on a thursday evening, class was over so i went home..
then James called me..it went something like this:

James: Dear, i ask kajen to come to your house to pass something to you
me: Whats that?? faster tell me..
James: You wait and see la.
Me: why you ask kajen to come all the way to my house? I'm gonna see him in uni tmr morning anyway.don't trouble him laa
James: ok then..
me: what is it? can use one ar? can keep or not?
james: you can use it for 2-3 hours.
me: then after then how? can i keep the thing or need to throw away?
james: you can keep it but you can't keep it
me: HUH???
James: i need to go down now, dear. maybe i'll call you later, ok?

then i went down to eat my pasta (early dinner)

five minutes later, kajen and david lee appeared at my house and james called me..i was so flustered, looking for the house keys and scolding james over the phone for making kajen come all the way to pass me the "thing" so i open the door to let both of them in and kajen said the thing was in the car and asked me to follow him...so i went out...and
i saw JAMES STANDING OUTSIDE!!! OMG!!!!!
i was so shocked and stunned and speechless...
and i was whacking him non stop after that for all the "stories" he told me...there were some give away signs but i guess i wasn't sharp enough to pick it up and did not ponder much about it....
1. i asked him how he passed it to kajen, he said something about kajen's brother or something...he was actually mumbling some explanation but i didn't question more...
2. he actually told me his plans, the dates that he will be going to HK and when he is coming back. i was surprised he was telling me everything cos he was insistent that it would be a surprise....and then i was wondering if he would come to KL before going to HK. but i thought no further.....
3. and i was too occupied thinking about what that "thing" was (the "thing" was James. LOL)

very amusing indeed. what a pleasant surprise :) just what i needed after 2 weeks in seremban
we went out for dinner at jusco in seremban 2 with kajen, dejun and david..manhatten fish market..took some photos but its in dear's camera. i want the photossss!!!!

the sad part was that he had to leave before 10pm (another long story..) hence being able "to use him for 2-3 hours..."
sigh...happiness short-lived :(
can't wait to see you again, dear....

going to KLIA to pick them up soon. whee~ so excited!! :) :)

my first week in seremban. words words and more words...

Its so good to be home. home as in subang jaya. David said we were like being caged up in seremban, which i think is true :P
Went over to seremban on monday to settle down before classes start on tuesday. Mum stayed over with me for two nights. lots of getting used to. from cold showers to doing everything on my own, such a huge transition for me. Luckily I'm staying with three lovely girls and also my sister.
First week was orientation. basically listening to talks and briefings and all. And even on the first few days, got pretty worked out at times. after listening about what is expected of us and what were are supposed to do. wow. overwhelming.
have to think of so many things at the same time.
1. start thinking about elective/selectives eventhough its one year away and provided we pass sem7 exams.
2. CFCS- choosing a pateint with a chronic illness and doing house visit!!
3. research projects
4. tbl
5. IMS
6.csu sessions
7. ward work..
omg...its all TOO much. i was feeling so down and had the feeling that i can't possibly survive. sigh.
and on the very first day we had an assignment to do, an ethics tutorial and a 400 words comment to be passed up on monday.
i'm having palpitations just thinking about next monday when real classes will start. i feel like I'm not ready. i feel that my skills are not adequate and that i will not be able to cope. yeah, i know i should not think so negatively but i can't help it.
perhaps things will get better.
living away from home for the first time is kinda scary but i'm slowly adapting to it. it will take some time to adapt to all these new changes, phase two is totally different, we are expected to make such a huge transition. and we can't take too much time to adapt. i just hope things will be OK and that i will be able to do well in the next 2 1/2 years.
enough of ranting...now have to go and to stuffs.

this is my LAST post before semester six starts, before i go over to seremban...
its not as dramatic as it sounds, but i'm sure going to miss home. my bedroom, popo's cooking, the bunnies, ah-woo-woo..
but i can come back to home sweet home every weekend (initially at first, but we'll see how it goes..)
yesterday was mummy dearest's birthday, had a very nice dinner at a chinese restaurant with yummy fresh water fish and yam basket. yummy~ dinner was on my sister :)
and for dessert, durian cake from la manilla, since it was on promotion (rm51 instead of rm65)

then after that we went over to seremban to shift in some stuff and also the stuff from my sister's house. had to make a few trips to carry the BED! table, stockers, clothes, TV and the other stuff that accumulated for a year! so tiring.

so that i won't starve there. plus all the ingredients to make pasta.oatmeal for busy days when i'm rushing for time.
since the room is still kinda messy, i won't put up all the photos yet. just a preview :P

ooo. the stuff from my sis's house. soo many stuff!! o.O
and having nothing to do at one time, i snapped a photo of my pink flip flop with a bright flower. its from Taiwan.

for dinner, our usual haunt. TAIPING LANG! i have already done a food review.

it was so packed so had to wait about 20 minutes plus

its already Friday, time certainly flies when you're having fun..
what i have been doing over the past few days...

1. shopping for stuff for seremban. mostly small stuff , more formal clothes and groceries, cos my sister has most of the other stuff and my room is furnished

2. reading, ALOT. went to the MPH warehouse sale on thursday (the very first day of the sales) and bought so may books. 6 all together and only for less than 80 ringgit. recently i have been addicted to books written by Jodi Picoult. the very first book (and is the BEST book so far!) i read was nineteen minutes. it was truly a fantastic book. that started off the addiction :p
and so far i have read My sister's keeper, Mercy and I'm currently working on The pact, which is turning out to be really good. but no matter how good a book is, i still need a break from reading. anyway back to the MPH warehouse sale..its still on until september 1st..click here for more details. i got a Jodi picoult book (the tenth circle) for only rm15!! (plus another 30% on the very first day and for being a MPH card member) and a Nicholas spark book (the choice) and two cecelia ahern (love, rosie and a place called here) for the same price. a very good haul!! hehe. so happy.don't miss out on this sales!!

3. lunches and movies with my best buddies from high school, Yiu Ti and Alicia.
went to pyramid yesterday for lunch at Ole-ole bali (brings back fond memories during valentines when i came here with James) and a movie, WALL.E which i so totally LOVED. omg, everything about it was good. right from the opening short animation from PIXAR called PRESTO..well, the main reason was that it featured an adorable white bunny...so don't be late for the movie! even the cockroach (wall.e's pet) was so cute. storyline was Ok too. definitely a must watch movie. I quote The Star's movie review "only a person with a cold, cold heart would remain uncharmed by the adorable antics of the robots in this 3D animated film" and a generous 5 star rating. so there you go!

4. and of course blogging (and also blog-hopping) which explains the sudden influx of entries :P)

wednesday was the perfect day to celebrate the birthdays of two very good friends of mine. Dejun did most of the planning (thank you so much :)) and i provided the cupcakes, hehe :P

i thought i was going to be late-with all the jam and the heavy downpour..but i was just about 20 minutes late ..

the place was Kiku-zakura, a very nice japanese restaurant in Mid valley, its at the top most floor (where the cinema is located) with traditional and very beautiful deco. when bill, jane and I walked in, they lead us to a sliding door and lo-behold!! our very own private room!! we even had to remove our shoes!! its sort of like dining japanese stlye except we don't have to sit crossed legged, there is actually space to dangle our feet.but i noticed it was rather difficult to move around and the waitresses had to bend down alot to serve us our food..the people there were really nice and friendly and very accomodating. they were also dressed up real nice that gives it a "authentic" atmosphere!! loved this place so much!!

me with my chicken nanban. so typical of me to order something so ordinary...it was bite sizes of chicken, deep fried. well, at least it had a pretty cute name...it was good also

this is my food- chicken nanban set, with a serving of salad, potato salad, rice, miso soup (which i did not touch) watermelon and some weird condiments on the small plate (still don't know what they are >.<)
jane's choice. chicken with cheese. quite a specail dish. it had a fancier name, but i just can't remember it...
and the highlight of the day that got all of us girls swooning and fawning over-the pink doggy ice cream cake...sooo cute!!and tastes good too, sponge cake with lots of chocolate ice cream
until we sang the birthday song and when the candles were blown...it time to cut the cake. poor doggy.
this is not for the faint hearted...surgery gone bad :( look at the face, its practically dropping off
